Yellow-throated warbler

Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania lies toward the northernmost limits of this handsome species’ breeding territory, and they are sparse and local in my area. They arrive in the spring several weeks before other warblers, and their soft, sweet song (yes, there’s a bit of Southern drawl there) always sparks a jolt of excitement. I usually see them in pines, and often high up—but this bird decided to hunt bugs among the bushes.
