Willet Catoptrophorus semipalmatus
These robust shorebirds are reasonably common on beaches and coastal wetlands on the East Coast; in the West, they are found on inland wetlands as well.. Somewhat nondescript when on the ground (or water), Willets are very noticeable when they fly: if the bold black and white wing pattern does not give them away, their loud ringing cries will. Like its smaller cousins the Semipalmated Plovers and sandpipers, Willets have partly webbed (semipalmatus) toes.
