Bald Eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Darlington, Maryland
An adult Bald Eagle, catch in claw, flies over the Susquehanna River toward its perch on the maple-lined ridge. The waters just below the Conowingo Dam are famed for the late autumn and winter gathering of eagles, attracted by the good fishing there, especially when the spill gates are opened. Come late November, there can be more people than eagles … a spectacle in itself.
