Marbled Godwit Limosa fedoa
Fort De Soto, Florida
This large godwit can be immediately identified by its distinctive structure (the long straight beak especially) and tawny plumage. They breed in the prairie sloughs of Canada and the north-central United States, and we see them in small numbers along the Mid-Atlantic coast during migration, but they are somewhat easier to encounter on Pacific and Southeastern beaches during the winter.
