I usually see these accomplished flutists on the “shoulders” of summer—early spring and, especially autumn. This bird showed up near our birdbath in March—a welcome sign of a new migration season. Note the rusty tail, contrasting with the more muted back —the quickest way to separate this thrush from similar cousins.
