Eastern Towhee
Ridley Creek State Park
The “Drink Your Tea” bird, looking sleek on a May morning in Eastern Pennsylvania. When they’re not singing—often fro exposed perches—you can usually hear their calls: a loud and emphatic “Drink!” And if that helpful hint is missing, towhees often scratch very loudly in leaf litter, searching for seeds, fruits and insects. This is a male: the females have similar patterning, but the black is replaced by brown.
