Brown-headed Nuthatch

Encountered in a small park on an overcast morning. A good month and year for nuthatches—this species and Red-breasted were both present. The Brown-heads are coastal pine specialists, usually seen in small flocks, and hard to miss because of their squeaky “rubber ducky” calls and restless, often inquisitive behavior.
